Acer

Acer Predator 15 (G9-593)

And so we kick off with a real beast – the Acer Predator 15 (G9-593). We are talking about the GTX 1070 configuration as there is also a GTX 1060 one. Anyway, the bad boy in question can be configured with an Intel Core i7-7700HQ or Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor. Additionally, you can get up to 512GB SSD + up to 1000GB HDD – pretty decent for all your heavy applications and many files that need storing.

Smooth multitasking will be ensured by the available up to 16GB of RAM. As far as your viewing experience is concerned, you get a 15.6”, Full HD (1920 x 1080), IPS display. We are also pleased to find a generous 88.8 Wh 8-cell battery which seems like a must, considering the demanding hardware that the Predator 15 has to offer. The laptop is not among the lightest with its weight of 3.70 kg but we can sort of understand that as it is packed with all these hardware components that need room to let some steam off.

Acer Predator 17 (G9-793)

Coming up second is another predator – the Acer Predator 17 (G9-793). This time we are dealing with a bigger machine – a 17-incher, to be more precise. This bad boy comes with an Intel Core i7-7700HQ or Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor (as it was the case with the Predator 15). Of course, you also receive the powerful NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (8GB GDDR5). Additionally, you can get up to 512GB SSD + up to 2000GB HDD – an overkill for most people but it’s good to have such a generous option.

Multitasking here will be even smoother with the option of having up to 32GB of RAM. As far as your viewing experience is concerned, you get a 17.3”, 4K UHD (3840 x 2160), IPS or 17.3”, Full HD (1920 x 1080), IPS display. Again we find an 88.8 Wh 8-cell battery which was great for the 15-incher but this model has a larger display which will drain the battery faster. Thew weight has increased, as one may very well have expected, and now we have a 4.20 kg.

Alienware

Alienware 15 R3

And now that we’ve dealt with the predator, it’s time to take a look at the alien – Alienware 15 R3. This machine can be configured with a powerful Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor which accompanies the graphics card in question – NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (8GB GDDR5). To store all your data you can use a 256GB SSD + 1000GB HDD – more than enough for most users. Memory-wise, smooth multitasking will be ensured by the available 2x 8GB DDR4 of RAM.

As far as the visual experience is concerned, you are provided with a 15.6” IPS display with Full HD (1920 x 1080 p) resolution. Under the hood, this bad boy sports a 68 Wh Li-Ion battery which is good, considering the IPS screen and demanding hardware. Additionally, the Alienware 15 R3 is not only powerful but it is also pleasing to the eye. It boasts a characteristic design of its own with a chassis made of aluminum-magnesium alloy. Another notable fact is that the laptop is only 25mm thick. It also provides modern day connectivity options with two USB Type C ports one of which supports Thunderbolt 3.

Alienware 17 R4

Moving on with the next machine on our list – Alienware 17 R4. This one is quite similar to the 15 R3, the obvious difference being that of size. The 17-incher sports an Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor accompanying the GPU in question. There is also a difference in the storage configuration – 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD (7200 rpm). It’s good to know that you have 2x 2280 PCIe NVMe (M key) and 1x 2242 PCIe NVMe (M key) ports at your disposal, should you decide to upgrade. As for the memory, you get 16GB DDR4 which is enough for most users.

And now, the most obvious change here is the display. It has grown bigger and now 17.3-inch TN panel with QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution. It’s good to know that this screen covers 93% of the sRGB colors and does not make use of PWM for brightness control. Last but not least, the 17 R4 will also make you happy with modern day connectivity options with two USB Type C ports one of which supports Thunderbolt 3.
