Quick look at Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) – first impressions, camera, performance

After we shared with you our reviews of Samsung Galaxy J3 and Galaxy J7 last month, we now have Galaxy J5 in our hands which will soon be tested and discussed in a detailed review. Before this, however, we publish this short article with our first impressions of this model’s capabilities.

Galaxy J5 has been designed in a fashion characteristic of this series. And we say that with a good intention. The appearance is quite nice for a mid-ranger, and the phone is 8.1 mm thick and weighs 159 grams. Additionally, you will find a metal lining that goes around the edges of the model, as well as pleasant to touch matte finish on the back (it does not attract fingerprints). The back is easily removable and gives access to the microSIM card and microSD card slots.

The smartphone features a 5.2-inch HD display (1280 x 720 p) which provides pixel density of around 282 ppi. Furthermore, there is a Super AMOLED panel that brings contrasty and staurated colors plus wide viewing angles. In a nutshell – you can’t be disappointed by Galaxy J5’s display. Also, there is an Outdoors mode that sharply increases brightness levels so that you may easily operate with the phone even under bright sunlight.

We are also impressed by the available Android 6.0 Marshmallow which is quite revamped by Samsung’s UI. The latter provides a rich number of additional apps and features. For example, in the settings menu you will find “Easy mode” and a mode allowing you to work easily with a single hand. Also available are apps such as S Health, S Planner, Microsoft Office package and others.

The mobile CPU used in this device is Snapdragon 410 – quite common for the mid-range. We expect good performance and low temperatures here even after a continuous load. Of course, we shall check all this in the coming days. For now we can show you the results from one computing and one graphic test.

The main camera is 13MP and it has autofocus, an LED flash, and an aperture value of f/1.9 that suggests good photos in lowlight. Apart from this, the camera menu offers several useful modes such as Beauty face, Sports, Sound and shot, Pro and others. Additionally, the smartphone has Full HD video recording. The manufacturer has been also very dilligent with the front 5MP camera – it offers the same aperture value and an LED flash. Selfie fans will appreciate the available options – Beauty Mode, panoramic selfie and gesture control.
