No, this is not clickbait. We were so impatient to write this article letting you know that you can now purchase the Russian jewel at an amazing price. You may have forgotten about this dual-screen smartphone as it was announced some time ago. Nonetheless, it is still a great solution and that’s why we would like to take you on a short excursion reminding you of some of its most noteworthy features. The phone is currently on sale for $157.25 but if you click on “add to cart”, you will get an even lower price – $119.99.
Wait! Where can you find this delightful offer? Well, our partners from GearBest are the ones who are to blame. If you are impatient, you can jump over to the website, or you could spend some time reading what we have to say.
Yeah, we will not only talk about the merits of this bad boy but also give you a couple of hints as to how to upgrade it to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. So, without further ado…
Design and displays
Well, this is one of the most peculiar aspects of the device. It is a dual-screen smartphone but not like the ones which have a big display and a small stripe on top playing the part of a secondary screen for notifications. Nope, the Yotaphone is an animal of its own kind. On the front there is the 5.0-inch Full HD AMOLED display – a marvel to look at. On top of it is the 2.1MP front-facing selfie camera.
Of course, what makes this device stand out is the rear 4.7-inch e-ink screen. Now it is not only useful if you are a bookworm and don’t want to carry around a Kindle or another e-book reader. It also shows you various notifications, time, weather forecast, etc. What’s even more important is that it’s not harmful to the user’s eyes and also is very gentle on the battery. If you think that this is all there is to it – nope, there’s more. Both displays (front and rear) use Gorilla Glass 3 protection so that if you are clumsy, you won’t have to pay a big price for repairs.
Hardware and Software
Indeed, the hardware components inside the Yotaphone 2 are not the latest and greatest of 2016 but still remind us of this device’s premium status. What takes care of the computing tasks inside the shell is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 – a quad-core chip (2.26GHz). It is accompanied by an Adreno 330 GPU and 2 GB of RAM. This is more than a decent combination for most tasks that you will perform on your phone. Additionally, Yotaphone 2 comes with a 2500mAh battery which performs well with the E-ink display but not that much with the AMOLED one.
The back also holds an 8MP camera accompanied by its LED flash. Yes, in 2016 8MP does not sound as a groundbreaking resolution but it does a really good job for the money.
Software-wise, you get the phone with Android 4.4 and you can either keep it that way or try to upgrade. Before proceeding with the upgrade, however, you should bear in mind that this voids the warranty as it’s not the most “legit” way of doing it.
