ASUS launches ROG GR8 II – compact, powerful, VR ready

ASUS Republic of Gamers today announced their new gaming desktop PC – the GR8 II. It’s an interesting device as it is quite compact. Its dimensions are 88 x 299 x 281.3mm and it weights only 4 kg. That makes it easy to transport so it’s ideal for LAN parties.

The console-sized PC is small yet powerful. You can equip yours with a processor up to a 7th generation Intel Core i7 (Kaby Lake) – i5 or i7 whichever you prefer. Graphics performance is handled by an ASUS-customized NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card which is VR capable. This PC is designed for Virtual Reality – the computer has been tested to ensure it can provide the recommended requirements for Oculus Rift. The two HDMI ports allow you to connect a VR headset or make a multi-display configuration (with the addition of the DisplayPort you can connect up to three monitors). GR8 II supports displays with resolution up to 4k UHD (3840 x 2160p) and NVIDIA G-SYNC technology is present. Its compact size makes it the smallest VR ready gaming PC.

To boost your performance you can add up to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM (clocked at 2400/2133 MHz). To ensure high-speed storage in addition to the 2.5-inch SATA port there is an M.2 SSD slot that supports drives up to 512 GB.

The design of GR8 II is spacecraft-inspired. It has a matte black finish with Aura Sync lighting effect across the chassis. These lights can be synchronized with other ROG peripherals such as keyboards and mice.

We only have information about the UK release. GR8 II should be available from the first week of February at a price of £949.99.
