AMD Radeon R9 M290X, codenamed “Neptune XT”, is a high-end graphics chip, announced in early Q1 of 2014. It is part of the GCN (Graphics Core Next) generation and is constructed through a 28nm process. Its consists of 1280 Radeon cores, 80 texture cores and 32 raster cores.
All of them operate at 850MHz, but the Turbo clock functionality can increase that up to 900MHz based on the laptop’s cooling capacity.
The chip also has a 256bit bus and is available with either GDR3 or GDDR5 memory. AMD Radeon R9 M290X supports DirectX 11.2, Pixel Shader 5.0, OpenCL 1.2, OpenGL 4.3, Zero Core and Power Gatinng. Memory bandwidth is 160GB/sec.
