[Comparison] AMD Ryzen 7 6800HS vs Intel Core i7-12700H – there’s nothing stopping the Blue Wall

2022 will be Intel’s year when it comes to laptops, in the case that you want the highest performing available hardware. Their Alder lake H-series is so far undefeated, managing to outperform everything that Ryzen delivers, regardless if it uses Zen 3 or Zen 3+.

Today, however, we have a new challenger, which strives to be the top choice when it comes to thin and light devices. The Ryzen 7 6800HS has a 35W TDP, which is 10W less than the CPU it’s going up against.

This will be a show for the ages, as the Ryzen 7 6800HS goes against the Core i7-12700H.

CPU benchmarks

There is a large difference in performance, which is in favor of the Core i7. In 3D Rendering with Cinebench 20, the Alder Lake CPU is 29% faster. In Photoshop, the same CPU is quicker as well, finishing the test with a lead of 0.8 seconds.

Conclusion

While Intel’s Alder Lake CPUs generally present better performance, that doesn’t mean that it’s over for AMD. What they can do now is focus on the mid-range and the low-end, while striving to offer better value at the high-end. While they can’t match Intel in terms of pure performance, if they play a bit with their pricing, they can deliver very good devices in terms of price to performance.
