[Comparison] Intel Core i5-1235U vs Core i5-1135G7 – Alder Lake goes BRRR

These two CPUs are direct relatives, with the Core i5-1235U being the spiritual successor of the Core i5-1135G7. One area where the Tiger Lake chip excels is with its higher power limit, but otherwise, the Alder Lake unit has it dead to rights, having more than double the cores, along with 4MB of extra cache. Let’s see how much of an improvement there is between the two chips and if you really need the new one.

Today we are comparing the Intel Core i5-1235U against the Core i5-1135G7.

CPU benchmarks

There is a large increase in performance from one gen to the next, with the Core i5-1235U scoring 40% higher in 3D Rendering. The laptop is ultimately quicker in Photoshop as well, with a lead of more than two seconds.

Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Conclusion

The single generational improvement shows at full force here, despite the fact that the laptop that we tested with the Core i5-1135G7 is the most powerful one that we have in our lab. With these more efficient low TDP chips, performance can vary a lot, since if the cooling is good, Intel has left a crack in the door for manufacturers to manually set a TDP, thus increasing the power of the CPU.
