[Comparison] Intel Core i7-11600H vs AMD Ryzen 5 5600H – the Core i7 comes out ahead, but the Ryzen is close behind

This is actually a great comparison. While the Ryzen 5 series is supposedly lower grade than the Core i7 family, the processors that we will compare today come with very similar specifications, including the same core and thread count, with the AMD counterpart coming with a higher base clock speed.

The Zen 3 family has brought a lot of improvements not only when performance is considered, but also when it comes to efficiency and battery life. Tiger Lake has also come at a very crucial time and definitely keeps AMD on its toes.

Here is our Top Laptop CPU Ranking, where you can check out the best performing processors.

Today we are comparing the Intel Core i7-11600H against the AMD Ryzen 5 5600H.

CPU benchmarks

The Core i7 delivered better performance in both the 3D and 2D Rendering tests, albeit the Ryzen 5 was close behind. The Intel CPU scored 11% higher in Cinebench R20 while also being 0.3 seconds faster in Photoshop, which to be fair is a negligible difference. However, it can scale if you are working with a larger project, and it can add up to be more.

Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)

Conclusion

The Core i7 proves to be better in 3D and 2D Rendering, however, the Ryzen 5 isn’t far behind. You can make the case for it, as is more readily available in a very wide range of notebooks starting from Gaming and going to Productivity. Laptops with this CPU are also coming at really good prices, including the highly coveted Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 and HP Victus 16, which are very versatile devices that can excel at a lot of tasks. However, we also expect the Core i7-11600H to pop up in more and more notebooks, both already released and brand new ones.
