[Comparison] Intel Core i7-1250U vs AMD Ryzen 7 6800U – Choosing between more performane or more efficiency

The Ryzen 6000U-series is an underrated bunch of chips, with good efficiency and performance, considering the laptops that use them are some of the smallest. When compared to most Alder Lake CPUs, there is a disadvantage in the core count, but AMD CPUs always use hyperthreading, so it kind of evens out.

This is why for today we have the Core i7-1250U, with a TDP of only 9W and we’re placing it against the Ryzen 7 6800U, which has a base TDP between 15W and 28W. Can the Ryzen 7 be more efficient and bring more power? Stick with us to find out.

CPU benchmarks

The Ryzen 7 gets going in 3D Rendering, scoring 53% higher in Cinebench 20. On the other hand, the Core i7 is around half a second faster in Photoshop.

Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)

GPU benchmarks

The integrated GPU inside the Ryzen CPU is incredible showing an 80% higher score in both 3DMark Fire Strike and Unigine Superposition.

Results are from the 3DMark: Time Spy (Graphics) benchmark (higher the score, the better)

Efficiency

We’re doing something a bit different today, as we wanted to see how efficient both chips are. The two laptops that we used for testing both come with similar battery capacities, while the AMD-powered laptop has an OLED display with a much higher resolution.

With that said, the Intel-powered device lasts for an extra 5 hours and 41 minutes of web browsing and 4 hours and 30 minutes of video playback.

In order to simulate real-life conditions, we used our own script for automatic web browsing through over 70 websites.

For every test like this, we use the same video in HD.

Conclusion

The Ryzen 7 is a lot more powerful in both computational work as well as GPU benchmarks and even games. The Intel processor still shines in Photoshop, however, being quicker. Even with the smaller battery, it outlasts the Ryzen 7 6800U by a reasonable amount.
