[Comparison] Intel Core i7-12700H vs AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX – after years of struggle, Intel is back

If this CPU doesn’t stop the i7-12700H, nothing will, at least when it comes to Windows-based laptops. Apple is swinging for the fences with its M1 Ultra, but Apple has the tightest grip around its silicon and OS, so it is difficult to judge real-life performance, at least until we see how they both perform under heavy loads, video editing, etc.

To get back on track, the Core i7-12700H is currently the top dog in mobile computing and there looks to be no CPU to challenge it. The final opponent, arguably its most difficult one is standing today. The Ryzen 9 5900HX is primed and ready to take on the Core i7-12700H.

CPU benchmarks

The Core i7 gives AMD another defeat, performing 18% better in 3D Rendering and being a second quicker in Photoshop. With higher boost clock speeds, more cache, and a large core and thread advantage, Intel has recuperated the lack of 3D Rendering performance and is now ahead, while their leads in 2D Rendering are being increased as well.


Conclusion

“Leave all hope behind ye who enter here.” Dante’s words couldn’t have said any better. At least until Ryzen 6000 and Ryzen 7000 are released, Intel has a tight grip on the laptop CPU market and is back on top. Now the ball is in AMD’s corner so let’s see how they respond.
