HP ProBook 470 G7 (2020) vs ProBook 470 G5 (2019) – the new one is more Pro than ever

We already have full info about the successor of ProBook 470 G5 – the ProBook 470 G7. The new 2020 model has 10th gen Intel Comet Lake CPUs and as always – a big 17.3″ display, new and fast dedicated GPU options, and better portability. Since last year’s model was a decent performer with a great keyboard, slim profile, and fast hardware, you can expect even more from the new one. Let’s check what the new HP ProBook 470 G7 (2020) has to offer.

Design: the same sleek-looking device

In terms of design, there are no big changes, and we have to be honest – it’s not necessary because we like the sleek and clean look of this lineup. The new model is a bit thicker but it’s lighter than the G5 one so, portability is improved. Мaybe you can ask for a bit thinner bezels but it is what it is.

Display: IPS panel and the HD+ display is here again

We aren’t very pleased with the quality of the last year’s model – the TN panel with HD+ resolution isn’t good enough. If you want to enjoy good viewing angles and vivid color you can pick a device with a 1080p IPS screen that provides much better image quality than the TN one. The IPS display has a higher ppi too – the image of the HD+ panel looks grainy and stretched.

Hardware: Intel 10th gen Comet Lake and a dedicated Radeon graphics

The HP ProBook 470 G7 rocks the new Intel 10th gen Comet Lake CPUs inside. That means fast, efficient, and battery-friendly CPUs with up to 4 cores alongside the Intel UHD 620 Graphics. If the iGPU isn’t enough you could pick the AMD Radeon 530 with 2GB GDDR5 memory. As for the storage, just like the G5 model, you can rely on an M.2 NVMe drive as well as a standard 2.5″ hard drive for additional space. The memory max memory supported frequency is 2666MHz DDR4.

Connectivity and ports: a good amount of inputs

The I/O looks decent – two USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Type A), one USB 2.0, an Ethernet port, one combo audio jack (for headphones and microphone), and an HDMI 1.4.

For connectivity, like many other 2020 devices, the new HP ProBook 470 G7 has a built-in Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) while the old model has (just) Wi-Fi 5. Bluetooth 5.0 is onboard too.

Other specs: optional backlit keyboard

The good news is that the full-sized keyboard is here with its NumberPad – if you are an accountant or you just type a lot you will value that keyboard. If you use your device at night often or in a dimmed room it’s not a bad idea to pick the optional backlit unit.

Some other misc specs – a 720p camera placed above the display, Kensington Lock, and a new (but smaller – 41Wh vs 48Wh) battery unit – when can hope that it’s optimized for long battery life (maybe the new Comet Lake CPUs will “help” for that).

Was someone asleep at the wheel when they wrote this article?
Whats happened to the USB C port on the G7?
And why bring back a DVD Drive?

The new model is crap. No VGA Port, weak housing, no easy access to RAM and HD. And the fan is blowing upwards into your face.

Which last model you think is the Best model? …i.e. has all the features we all used to? Is it G3 or G4 ? …’cuz G5 have no DVD/CD anymore 🙁
