ASUS ExpertBook B3 Flip (B3402) – Top 5 Pros and Cons

It’s a very rare occurrence where a business laptop would also be advertized towards educational institutions, as well. The two worlds do overlap a bit, but you have to assume that if you purchase a large number of devices for kids, they have to be very affordable.

This is where we can’t see the ASUS ExpertBook B3 Flip (B3402), which is part of the more premium ExpertBook brand, and while you can configure it to be affordable, you’re better off with Chromebooks, which offer a smoother experience with less powerful hardware. Still, the device is great for people who will actually take advantage of the 4-core / 8-thread CPU, the convertible form factor, and the added stylus.

Today we are presenting you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the ASUS ExpertBook B3 Flip (B3402).

ASUS ExpertBook B3 Flip (B3402): Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the ASUS ExpertBook B3 Flip (B3402)

1. Design and build quality

ASUS has put a lot of thought into the construction of the laptop, in order to make it safe and usable, even in the most extreme of circumstances. The device has a metal lid and a plastic base, while the laptop as a whole has undergone an antimicrobial treatment, which gives an R-value of <2, which according to studies, means that it gets a 99% reduction in bacterial activity, which is great for every setting, but especially in the healthcare sector.

The MIL-STD-810H certification ensured that the device is durable enough to endure the abuse that daily use is. In terms of weight and height, this isn’t the most portable device, weighing 1.61 kg and having a profile of 19.5 mm.

2. I/O

The laptop is packed full of ports, with two USB Type-A ports (one 2.0 and one 3.2 Gen. 1), two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.0a, a MicroSD card reader, an Ethernet port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

3. Upgradeability

This isn’t the most upgradeable laptop, but it has enough to last you more than a couple of years. There are up to 16GB of soldered RAM, along with a single SODIMM slot. For storage, there is a single M.2 PCIe x4 drive.

Here is our teardown video, which shows how to access the RAM and SSD slots.

4. Battery life

The 50Wh battery pack isn’t exactly large, but for the hardware, it does well. In our tests, the laptop managed to last for 11 hours and 29 minutes of Web browsing, or 6 hours and 59 minutes of video playback. Now, we conduct the battery tests with Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

1 reason NOT to buy the ASUS ExpertBook B3 Flip (B3402)

1. Display quality

The display here was a few features short for making the laptop a steal for everyone. While the 14-inch FHD IPS panel brings excellent viewing angles and brightness uniformity, its color coverage suffers, squeezing out a measly 50% sRGB coverage. The device could have used a Creator display, especially with the Stylus that comes with it. Still, for general use, you’ll find the laptop to be great, featuring zero PWM usage.

The accuracy isn’t great either, with the factory settings (left), giving us a dE value of 6.4. When we applied our Design and Gaming profile, the dE value went down to 4.0, which still isn’t near the <2 industry standard.

Office Work

Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

Design and Gaming

This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

Health-Guard

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.
