Design and display

Most devices from the Republic of Gamers lineup, as well as Zephyrus GX501 have an extremely beautiful design. However, this new ASUS laptop includes several improvements which increase its performance without bumping the weight of the mobile device – on the contrary. ROG Zephyrus GX501 weighs just 2.27 kg, according to ASUS, and at its thickest point, it is barely 1.8 cm.

If you are wondering how the laptop will be cooled efficiently, the Taiwanese company has found a very interesting solution. It is called AAS or, in other words, Active Aerodynamic System. The technology is actually a 20% vent at the bottom of the laptop when you open ROG Zephyrus GX501. In this way, the laptop takes in cold air from the environment, while the warm air comes out of the front and side fans installed in the front and side parts.

In the front part of ROG Zephyrus GX501, the glowing ASUS logo, as well as the Republic of Gamers inscription, have been placed, as expected. In the interior, we notice an Anti-Ghost keyboard with an RGB backlight that can be customized to your choice. Looking upwards, we find the 15.6-inch matte FHD display with a refresh rate of 60 or 120Hz, as well as the HD web camera.

High performance

ASUS has called ROG Zephyrus GX501 “the thinnest gaming laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 in its corpus” on purpose. The most powerful graphics card on the market for the moment has 8GB GDDR5 and it holds the second place in our GPU ranking after the SLI configuration. In order to avoid the so-called “bottleneck”, Zephyrus GX501 features a 4-core Core i7-7700HQ, running at a clock speed of 2.8GHz and reaches up to 3.9GHz after Turbo Boost.

The cache memory of the processor chip is 6MB L3, while the type of the supported RAM is DDR4-2400/LPDDR3-2133/DDR3L-1600. Thankfully, the RAM installed on the laptop is precisely the faster DDR4, while the storage – 16GB or 24GB (for a few dollars more). In order to store your data as well as load OS files faster during work, ROG Zephyrus GX501 features an SS a with size of 256GB, 512GB or 1TB PCIe Gen3 NVMe SSD.

Battery and connectivity

ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX501 is equipped with a 4-cell 50Wh battery, which doesn’t surprise us given the powerful hardware inside the device. Additionally, the notebook has four USB 3.0 ports, a single HDMI output, as well as an USB 3.1 Type-C port. This means that you can seamlessly connect a mouse or keyboard if the available one on your laptop is uncomfortable.

Moreover, if you have a Type-C to Display Port adapter, you can easily connect two more monitors to your mobile device. The list is complemented by the available Kensington Lock and the two 2W integrated speakers. ASUS ROG Zephyrus GX501 comes with a 2-year international Collect & Return warranty, which means that if damaged, the laptop is shipped to an authorized ASUS service center at their expense.

Is it possible to have an extended battery for gx501? Maybe a 6cell or even better 9cell battery?
