Quick look at Motorola Moto G4 – First impressions, camera, performance

Motorola Moto G4 was officially announced several weeks ago, and today the device is in our hands. This means that our tests can now begin. However, for those of you who are impatient we have prepared a short article that describes our first impressions of this model. Additionally, you can expect our detailed review in the near future.

Perhaps the first thing you’ll notice in the new Moto is that it’s bigger than its predecessors. This is so because we are dealing with a 5.5-incher. However, we won’t comment on the size as it is a matter of personal preference. Still, do bear in mind that manipulating the phone with a single hand won’t be as comfortable as it would be with a 5-incher such as Moto G2 or Moto G3.

We are not exactly impressed by the hardware volume controls and Power button. It seems that they are not so easy to press. Another slight remark is as regards the back panel. It has a matte finish and is not slippery, which is quite important for a 5.5-inch smartphone, however, it shows a lot of fingerprints. On the other hand, the back is removable, but the battery isn’t. Inside you will find a microSD card slot that supports up to 256 GB. The model that we are testing offers 64 GB of internal storage, 13.5 GB of which are occupied by system files, and the OS is Android 6.0 Marshmallow (as expected). You won’t find any additional UI and hence there won’t be many extra features and modes, but working with the device will be snappy and without any stuttering or lag.

Additionally, there is an improvement in the mobile CPU – in Moto G3 it used to be Snapdragon 410 and now it is Snapdragon 617, which features eight Cortex-A53 cores. Graphics performance is ensured by the Adreno 405 GPU and the RAM capacity is 2 GB. Of course, we shall conduct all traditional graphics and computing benchmark tests, and compare its performance to that of other competitive models in the coming days. For now we can show you the results from one computing and one graphics test.

The main camera is 13MP and has an aperture value of f/2.0, autofocus and a dual LED flash. Its menu is not the richest but you still have Full HD and Slow motion video recording. What’s important here is that our first test shots seem really good.
