[Specs and Info] GIGABYTE G5 (2023) – Upgrading only the vital components

The GIGABYTE G5 is a budget gaming machine that doesn’t get a lot of attention, despite offering decent specs for the price. Today we have the 2023 unit, which doesn’t look all that different from the 2023 version, both on the inside and the outside. Most of the previous budget gaming machines have decided to up their level and enter the midrange segment, like the Acer Nitro 5 and TUF series from ASUS, so it’s about time someone stood up and filled the available space, giving laptops like the Victus 15 and 16, as well as the IdeaPad Gaming 3 a run for their money.

Today we’re giving you a quick overview of the GIGABYTE G5 (2023).

GIGABYTE G5 (2023): Full Specs

Design

The GIGABYTE G5 has a plastic chassis with some gamer-y elements on the lid and the touchpad, as well as a silver GIGABYTE logo on the lid. The heat vents on the back and the side have a fairly aggressive design. If it was completely bare plastic, it could pass as a minimalist gaming laptop, as the overall shape of the lid and the base are flat, with sharp edges and rounded corners. In terms of dimensions, the laptop comes with a weight of 1.90 kg and has a profile of 22.7 mm.

The port selection is split between the left, right, and center. It has one USB 2.0 port, one USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, one USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, an HDMI port, a mini DisplayPort, a MicroSD card reader, a LAN port, as well as separate audio jacks for a microphone and headphones.

Display

The laptop has a single display option: a Full HD IPS panel with a 144Hz refresh rate. It doesn’t see a change from last year, which is fine, considering other budget players in the space provide similar panels.

Specifications and features

The laptop is powered by the Core i5-12450H and the Core i5-12500H. The 12450H has 8 cores and 12 threads, while the 12500H comes with 12 cores and 16 threads. For graphics, you get the RTX 3050 from last year, as well as the RTX 4050 and RTX 4060, which should be much more powerful, but also cost more. All three GPUs have a 75W power limit. The laptop has two SODIMM slots for DDR4 memory and two M.2 slots for SSDs. Only one of them supports the newer Gen 4 SSDs.
