[Specs and Info] The Acer Swift 3 (SF314-511) and Swift 3 (SF314-59) are Tiger Lake laptops with lots of power and premium build quality

Acer has been one of the slower manufacturers to implement Tiger Lake into their laptops. So far, we have only gotten the budget-conscious Aspire 5, which was great and all, but now we have the more expensive Swift 3 laptops which pair the Tiger Lake performance with a premium build quality.

The laptop is light and powerful, which makes it a perfect daily driver for work or school. It has enough power under the hood to take on any task you throw at it, without breaking a sweat.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the Acer Swift 3 (SF413-511) and Swift 3 (SF314-59).

Design

Both laptops feature a premium body made out of aluminum and magnesium alloys. The combination makes for a very rigid body, with little to no flex. Weight and height-wise, the laptops are identical with a weight of 1.20 kg and a height of 15.9 mm. There is a multitude of color options as well, so you’re sure to find something that suits you and your lifestyle. Branding is kept to a minimum with the Acer logo only being present on the center of the lid and below the display.

Display

Both devices have the same display, which has a diagonal of 14 inches and a Full HD resolution. The screen uses an IPS panel and if we have to assume that the screen will be the same as on the Swift 3 from last year, then the laptop is in good hands. That panel had comfortable viewing angles and was bright enough. It didn’t use PWM so it wasn’t damaging to your eyes. The color coverage wasn’t anything spectacular, as it sat at 55% of the sRGB color gamut.

Specifications and features

There is a difference between the CPU choices, with the SF314-511 having one more Core i3 CPU to choose from. All processors use the new Tiger Lake architecture, which is quite an improvement over older Intel CPUs. They are very powerful, with even the Core i3-1125G4 offering decent performance and being able to handle a variety of different tasks. The graphics are taken care of by the Iris Xe Graphics G4 and G7, and as you may have seen from our CPU comparison, some of which also test the iGPUs in them, you can see that the Iris Xe Graphics are one of the most powerful iGPUs on the market.

The laptops are armed to the teeth with features, such as a backlit keyboard, a fingerprint reader, Bluetooth 5, and Wi-Fi 6 support. To make conference calls great Acer has implemented a stereo speaker setup and a dual-array microphone.
