[Specs, Info, and Prices] Acer Predator Triton 500 SE (PT516-52s) – the Predator brand grows up

Acer as a brand is in a weird place. They almost always seem to not know what they are doing when compared to its closest competitor, ASUS. They really need a metaphorical wake-up call, since they were once industry leaders, but now seems like they have no idea what they are doing.

One of their first CES 2022 announcements was the Acer Predator Triton 500 SE (PT516-52s), which is a gaming laptop with a more minimalistic approach to the design. It also comes with some productivity features, such as a 16:10 display.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the Acer Predator Triton 500 SE (PT516-52s).

The Acer Predator Triton 500 SE (PT516-52s can be expected in February with a starting price of $2,830.

Acer Predator Triton 500 SE (PT516-52s): Full Specs

Design

The device is super sleek, reminding us a lot of the Legion 7 from Lenovo. This means sharp edges, round corners, and a flat lid with a very small Predator logo. However, the design still retains some of the Gaming and aggressive nature, with the heat vents on the back. In terms of weight and height, the laptop stops the scales at 2.50 kg and has a profile of 20.5 mm, which is great for a 16-inch device with this level of hardware.

Display

There is a single display option, with a 16-inch diagonal, a QHD+ resolution, 240Hz refresh rate, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and an IPS panel. Furthermore, the panel fully covers the DCI-P3 gamut, which opens wide the doors to creativity. With the selected graphics card, you can freely play Triple-A games at this resolution while reaching very high framerates.

Specifications and features

There are two CPU options, with either the Core i7-12700H or the Core i9-12900H. Both of them come with 14 cores (6 Performance + 8 Efficiency) and 20 threads. They excel at complex tasks, including 3D and 2D Rendering. The new hybrid architecture will need some adjusting, mainly from developers, after which we can expect a new level of desktop and laptop performance.

The graphics are taken care of by the RTX 3080 Ti, which is brand new and has an abundance of CUDA cores (7424 to be exact). As we said in the part about the display, we expect the GPU to totally demolish 1440p gaming with whatever game you throw at it.

With such powerful components, we need proper cooling. What Acer has done is to implement three fans and four heat pipes.

In terms of I/O, the laptop offers decent coverage, with two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, an SD card reader, an Ethernet connector, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
