[Specs, Info, and Prices] Acer TravelMate P4 (TMP416-41) – Lightweight workstation with a large display

While the smaller Acer TravelMate P4’s Alder Lake P-series processors will be capable of handling complex work, the bigger 16-inch variant also offers the Ryzen 6000U-series, which definitely has a lot going for it, including the RDNA 2 graphics and very high clock speeds, which make the 6 and 8-core chips run incredibly well. Let’s see what else the 16-inch TravelMate P4 can offer, by giving you a quick overview of its features.

The Acer TravelMate P4 (TMP416-41) is available now with a starting price of 1,099.99.

Acer TravelMate P4 (TMP416-41): Full Specs

Design

The design is pretty good for an office and productivity machine, featuring a full metal chassis that’s a mix between aluminum and magnesium. This leads to a thin profile and a very low weight, considering its form factor, weighing 1.67 kg and having a profile of 19.81 mm. The laptop is definitely pleasant to look at, with a matte anodized finish, and subtle branding. Taking a peak at the base, we see a full-sized keyboard with a NumPad, along with two speaker grills that flank it on its left and right sides.

The port selection includes two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, two USB Type-C 4.0 ports, an HDMI port, a MicroSD card slot on the front, a LAN port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Display

The display selection of the laptop includes only one option, a Full HD+ IPS display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. Our previous experience with the TravelMate P4 has taught us not to expect a very good display, so the panel here will probably cover about 50-60% of the sRGB gamut. While that kind of defeats its 16-inch gloriousness, you can still use it for video editing or learning the ins and outs of design apps, you’d have to sacrifice color grading if you want to take things to a professional level.  As you can see, the top bezel looks to be well-populated. In fact, it features an HD webcam, a privacy shutter, and an optional IR scanner for facial recognition.

Specifications and features

The laptop is powered by two Ryzen 6000U Pro-series CPUs, the 6-core Ryzen 5 Pro 6650U and the 8-core Ryzen 7 Pro 6850U. The two CPUs have been shown to supply a lot of performance, considering the 15W base TDP. However, if we had to compare them to Alder Lake’s U-series and P-series, the Ryzen 7 is a better competitor, as its 8 cores do a better job at battling the 10 and 12-core offerings from Intel. In terms of graphics, you get RDNA 2 integrated units with the Radeon 660M and the Radeon 680M. With them, you’ve got enough GPU performance for daily use and video rendering, as well as gaming, including both esports and triple-A titles. However, playing the latter will be a bit tricky, as you’d have to adjust settings and resolutions appropriately, in order to get better framerates.
