There are a few manufacturers that can invent a brand new series of laptops and succeed. Lenovo is one of them, with their ThinkBook lineup being very successful, at least from our point of view, offering fantastic devices for decent prices, that aren’t cheap, but offer good value when you factor in the things that you’re getting.

Today we have the 4th Gen ThinkBook 16 and ThinkBook 14. With Alder Lake under the hood, along with a great selection of displays, these are versatile laptops that can do work, while also looking great doing it.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the Lenovo ThinkBook 16 Gen 4+ and the ThinkBook 14 Gen 4+.

Design

As with all other ThinkBooks, these two get an aluminum chassis with a grey two-tone finish on the lid. The lid also features the ThinkBook and Lenovo wordmark. The forehead of the lid is slightly protruding, to make space for the Full HD webcam and IR face recognition sensors. Being a smaller laptop, the ThinkBook 14 lacks a NumPad, while its larger 16-inch counterpart does come with one. Both laptops are very portable, however, with even the ThinkBook 16 weighing only 1.82 kg, which is exceptional for such a large device. The 14-inch device weighs around 400 grams less, while also being half a millimeter thinner, which shouldn’t even be noticeable.

Display

The ThinkBook 16 and 14 both have three display options, all with a 16:10 aspect ratio. They both share a Full HD+ IPS panel with a 300 nit max brightness. Then we see a split, with the ThinkBook 16 offering two 2.5K IPS panels with either 60Hz or 120Hz refresh rate and 100% sRGB coverage.

The ThinkBook 14 has a 2.2K IPS panel with a 300 nit max brightness and 100% sRGB coverage and a 2.8K IPS panel with a 90Hz refresh rate, a 400 nit max brightness, and the same 100% sRGB coverage.

Specifications and features

The ThinkBook 14 has the Core i5-1250P, while the ThinkBook 16 has the Core i7-1270P. Both laptops also offer the Core i7-1280P, which comes with 6 Performance cores, 8 Efficiency cores, and 20 total threads. Despite which laptop and CPU combo you pick, you’re getting the Iris Xe Graphics G7, which is better than most low-end discrete offerings, while also consuming less power.

In terms of features, you have the aforementioned FHD Webcam and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, which will really liven up your room if you decide to play some tunes or immerse yourself in a movie.

The I/O coverage that they offer is also fantastic, with a total of three USB Type-A ports (one 2.0 and two 3.2 Gen. 1), two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2), one of which also has Thunderbolt 4 support, an HDMI 2.0b connector, an SD card reader, an Ethernet port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
