4 reasons to BUY the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 2

1. The Build quality

The interesting thing about this device’s build quality is that there are three different options in terms of materials. You have a combination of aluminum for the lid and plastic for the base or either a fully plastic or fully metal body. All should be durable enough since Lenovo states that all of their devices go through rigorous testing to ensure that they are sturdy enough to endure the abuse that laptops generally go through.

2. The Upgradeability

Going under the hood of the laptop, the upgradability on it is on point. There is one SODIMM RAM slot, which Lenovo says supports up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM at 3200MHz, for further expansion. In addition to that, there are two M.2 PCIe drives for storage upgrades in the future.

3. The Performance

The Tiger Lake architecture for sure brings performance improvements, and while our unit came with the Intel Core i3-1115G4, if we have to make conclusions based on it, There is a lot of potentials for this device to be a little beast if you decide to spec it out with the more powerful hardware options.

Below you can see the comparison between the Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 vs the Core i7 model of the ThinkPad E14 Gen 1.

4. The Display

Lenovo has chosen a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS panel with comfortable viewing angles and a good contrast ratio. Additionally, it doesn’t use PWM to adjust its brightness, which is great to see. On the flip side, it only covers 51% of the sRGB color gamut, which is nearly half the colors on the Internet.

As for the color accuracy, both with stock settings (left) and with our Gaming and Web design profile applied (right), we couldn’t bring it down to reasonable levels.

Office Work

Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

Design and Gaming

This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

Health-Guard

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.
