ASUS’ top-tier gaming laptop with GTX 1080, the ROG G701VI, is available for purchase

71gga29lsl-_sl1200_It was only logical for ASUS to release its flagship gaming laptop with the most powerful GTX 1080 since the GTX 1070 and 1060-powered notebooks are already taking the market by a storm. However, you have to be ready to dig deep into your pockets because the ROG G701VI isn’t affordable by any means.

The ROG G701VI retains the same design language we saw in the G752 and most of the hardware as well. It sports the latest Intel Core i7-6700HQ for the basic configuration and can go up to the unlocked Core i7-6820HK paired with up to 64GB of DDR4-2400 RAM and, of course, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 with 8GB of GDDR5X VRAM. So basically, you will get desktop-like performance in a compact package. Well, it’s compact compared to a normal desktop configuration but the G701VI still weighs around 3.8 kg and it’s 35 mm thick.

Interestingly, the storage setup includes only M.2 PCIe NVMe configurations and what’s more, the motherboard supports the delicious NVMe standard in RAID 0 array. That’s what we get from ASUS’ description on their official web page. Unfortunately, the only screen option available is the Full HD (1920×1080) TN panel with G-Sync support so no 4K UHD. However, you can take advantage of the ultra-fast refresh rate of 120 Hz meaning you can play your games at 120 frames per second! Still, it would have been nice for ASUS to offer 4K resolution because from what we saw more than a month ago, the GTX 1070 for laptop is perfectly capable of handling some of the latest games in 4K resolution.

Anyway, the price of this beast starts at $3 499 and can go up depending on the storage configuration and CPU. It’s available for purchase on Amazon.com: http://amzn.to/2dI0pTi

Yes, it’s a shame that is not IPS, for that price it should have an IPS panel, I have a lot of doubts to buy it… It’s a lot of money and for that money I would like to have all what G701 has but with a HDD possibility, RGB keyboard, and IPS 120HZ panel… 3500€ is not easy money…

I know the Monitor Asus PG279Q, but for that price they could put it in! The G701VI don’t have a 4k screen, don’t have 2xGTX 1080…

The bigger brother GX800VH will have the works, dual 1080’s, 4K screen. The G701VI has a price/performance advantage with a single 1080 in and a 1920×1080 display. Also wait a little bit, this model starts at $3099, with a 512GB NVME SSD, and 16GB of RAM.

The GX800VI would interest me but I don’t want a 4K screen 60HZ, and as I heard, the G701VI 3099$ model has 32 GB RAM.

The best laptop for me would be a G800VI with a IPS 120 HZ Full HD Screen…

Ah yes 32GB sorry. Anxiously waiting for this to get released in the UK. 4K in laptops is a bit pointless still imo. 1920×1080 at 120hz is a fantastic display for a single 1080 laptop. Most upcoming games for the next 3/4 years will run perfectly at max settings, 60fps and up. If you want 4K, plug in a Razer Core or the upcoming Asus ROG Station 2 via thunderbolt.

I share the same opinion about 4K, is pointless, and yes, if a gtx 970 runs games pretty well at 1080p and in some point is an overkill, then a gtx 1080 for 1080p gaming it can run smooth all the games on ultra 120HZ max settings with the mods over 60fps, if you wish 4K then you can use Nvidia DSR, and with G-Sync the smoothness is sick! I have the same plannings too, if someday I need more power and I’m moving for a few weeks somewhere, I take my ASUS XG STATION 2 and I take my… Read more »
