id CTO Robert Duffy confirms Quake Champions and upcoming next-gen engine
id Software has been around for quite some time now. It is the pioneering game studio that popularized the FPS genre with all-time classics like DOOM and Quake. Now id’s CTO Robert Duffy talks about the new AMD Ryzen processors and the opportunities they bring both for developers and gamers.
According to him id is testing the new processors and is quite happy with the results. He adds that Ryzen brings potentially high-performance at an attractive price and that the many cores and threads they offer unlock better overall gaming experience while background applications are running (e.g. live streaming).
Daffy hints that id Software is also working on a new next-generation game engine that will be highly-optimized for multi-threaded processors and particularly Ryzen. He also confirms that Quake Champions is coming. For those of you who aren’t aware of it, Quake Champions is an online hero-based FPS that will hopefully bring back lots of joyous memories.
