Samsung Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy S8 – specs, price and everything you need to know

After the whole deluge of leeks and photos of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, Samsung finally revealed the two new models that will reign over their huge mobile family. There are no surprises as to the external appearance of the smartphones. We are presented with a pleasantly curved along the edges display with extremely thin frames. Also, the hardware Home button is no longer to be found here but you do have software on-screen buttons which can register pressure as it is the case with the 3D Touch iPhone 7 screen. Anyway, it is namely the screen size that is the main difference between the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ models – the former boasting a 5.8-inch one, while the latter – 6.2-inch. In both cases we have a Super AMOLED panel and resolution of 2960 х 1440 pixels. As a result, we have a size difference – Galaxy S8 weighs 155 grams, while the bigger Galaxy S8+ is 173 grams. Additionally, these new gadgets offer a metal frame and glass front and back sides, using Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Furthermore, they are IP68 certified or, to put it simply, protected from reasonable quantities of water and dust.

Depending on your region, there may be two versions available – one featuring the Snapdragon 835 and another one with the Exynos 8895 Octa mobile CPUs. These are complemented by 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card slot supporting up to 256 GB. As for the main camera, it is 12MP and boasts f/1.7 aperture, 1.4 µm pixels, LED flash and optical image stabilization. You can record 4K videos at 60 fps and 1080p at 120 fps. And the front carries an 8MP camera, again with f/1.7 aperture. In addition, the battery of Galaxy S8 is 3000 mAh, while in S8+ we are dealing with a 3500 mAh. Both models offer wireless charging and also feature a quick charging technology.

And the specs sheet continues with LTE Cat16, allowing you to reach download speeds up to 1024 Mbps, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type C, fingerprint sensor as well as iris scanner. Another new addition is the Bixby voice assistant which can answer voice inquiries, conveniently control the interface and other features related to an image-recognition technology that it includes. You can also add to your kit a Samsung DeX docking station allowing you to turn your phone into a computer. It uses the phone’s USB Type C port and offers you a USB 3.1 and DisplayPort.

You may also wish to know that the two models will be offered in black, gray, silver, blue and gold color options. US sales start on 21st April. A week after this, the devices will be available on the European market and sell for 809 Euro (Galaxy S8) and 909 Euro (Galaxy S8+).
