ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU604, 2023) review – gaming devices can’t really get any better
Temperatures and comfort, Battery Life
Max CPU load
In this test we use 100% on the CPU cores, monitoring their frequencies and chip temperature. The first column shows a computer’s reaction to a short load (2-10 seconds), the second column simulates a serious task (between 15 and 30 seconds), and the third column is a good indicator of how good the laptop is for long loads such as video rendering.
Average P-core frequency; Average E-core frequency; CPU temp.; Package Power
Intel Core i9-13900H (45W TDP) | 0:02 – 0:10 sec | 0:15 – 0:30 sec | 10:00 – 15:00 min |
---|---|---|---|
ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU604, 2023) | 3.98 GHz @ 3.08 GHz @ 84°C @ 116W | 3.69 GHz @ 2.90 GHz @ 87°C @ 97W | 3.60 GHz @ 2.87 GHz @ 88°C @ 92W |
The 5 million heat pipes on this device manage to sufficiently cool the Core i9-13900H, allowing it to keep pretty high clocks in both the P-cores and the E-cores.
Real-life gaming
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 | GPU frequency/ Core temp (after 2 min) | GPU frequency/ Core temp (after 30 min) |
---|---|---|
ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU604, 2023) | 1697 MHz @ 71°C @ 144W | 1694 MHz @ 74°C @ 144W |
ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 (G834, 2023) | 1901 MHz @ 72°C @ 172W | 1883 MHz @ 76°C @ 172W |
The same can be said about the graphics performance, which seems to remain undisturbed even after 30 minutes of gaming. However, the relatively low temperature comes at the expense of a lot of noise (in the Turbo mode).
Comfort during full load
Not only that, but the middle part of the keyboard, and the center of the bottom panel get pretty warm with temperatures higher than 50°C.
Battery
Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with. This device’s 90Wh battery pack lasts for 4 hours and 40 minutes of Web browsing, or 5 hours and 10 minutes of video playback on a single charge.
