[Analysis & Benches] AMD Radeon RX Vega 7 (Ryzen 4000, 35/45W) – an iGPU that is faster than most of the low-end GPUs

The mobile Zen 2 processors are really capable products. They combine a fast CPU and a decent iGPU into a single chip. On top of that, the end prices of the Zen 2-based devices are lower compared to the Intel ones. Let’s take for example the Intel Core i7-10750H. It’s not a bad CPU, but its integrated video card is the Intel UHD 630 that is a bit old and not-so-fast even for an integrated GPU. In most cases, the laptops that are configured with this Intel CPU are more expensive when compared to notebooks with an 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 4800H.

On the other hand, the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H is a new CPU that has 8 core and 16 threads but its iGPU is the reasonably powerful AMD RX Vega 7. The latter proved to us that its one of the fastest integrated video cards up to date and even some low-end dedicated graphics like the NVIDIA MX series can have a hard time against it. At least for now, the only real challenger of the RX Vega 7 is its bigger sibling – the AMD RX Vega 8.

That’s why we are going to show you the performance of RX Vega 7 with the aid of a lot of gaming tests and videos.

    Specs overview

As we already said, the AMD Radeon RX Vega 7 is an iGPU. It has 512 MB memory but it uses the system RAM too if some game needs more VRAM. During testing, we saw that this is an automated process and we didn’t find anything in BIOS that is related to decreasing or increasing the amount of RAM that the iGPU can use. When we fired up Doom Eternal (on Ultra Nightmare preset) the game has allocated a hefty 8150MB of the system memory for the iGPU.

So, keep that in mind that too – this iGPU really benefits from faster memory (at least DDR4 3200MHz) and 16GB of RAM is not a bad idea at all. That is the recipe if you want to squeeze everything out of the RX Vega 7.

Some specs – the AMD RX Vega 7 is equipped with 448 shader units, 8 ROPs, and you can find it with TDP levels from 15W to 45W because this integrated GPU is fitted in CPUs like the ULV AMD Ryzen 7 4700U and you can go as high as the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H that has a 45W TDP.

    Verdict

The overall performance of the AMD Radeon RX Vega 7 is impressive. This is not just a regular iGPU that can be used for casual work like Web browsing, watching videos, and super-light games. This integrated product can be a real money saver because if you don’t need a super-fast video card the RX Vega 7 will do the job even better than some low-end dedicated GPUs. And it’s clearly faster than the majority of the iGPUs out there.

The other pros are that being an iGPU, the RX Vega 7 doesn’t dissipate too much heat, it has a lower power consumption than a lot of other not-so-fast dedicated videos which (probably) leads to better comfort during gameplay because of the lowered heat levels. Also, perhaps the noise that comes from the cooling fans could be lower too (but that depends on the cooling solution of the particular device).

In short, if you don’t need too much graphics power, the AMD RX Vega 7 will definitely do the job and it’ll save you some money in the process.
