[Comparison] Intel Core i5-11400H vs Intel Core i7-11800H – While the Core i7 won, the Core i5 shows promise in 2D Rendering

A battle between two Tiger Lake H45 chips ought to be pretty interesting. For the first time, we are going to have the Core i5-11400H take part in a comparison, and we’re putting it in the main event from the get-go.

Today it will go against the Core i7-11800H, and while the results will be obvious from the start, it would still be a good measure of how much more performance you get from jumping up to the Core i7 and if that is worth the extra cost for you.

Here is our Top Laptop CPU Ranking, where you can check out the best performing processors.

CPU benchmarks

To no surprise, the Core i5-11400H lost the 3D and 2D Rendering battle. In the Cinebench test, the Core i7 had a 56% higher score, which is more than we initially expected. The performance gap has hardly been as big as it is right now, with the Core i7-11800H looking unstoppable. As for the Photoshop benchmark, here the results were much closer, with the Core i7 having a lead of around 0.7 seconds.

Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Conclusion

Obviously, the Core i7-11800H is the more powerful chip. After all, it is more expensive and is literally placed higher on the Intel CPU pyramid, in terms of price and performance. Hoverer, the Core i5 displayed exceptional performance in 2D Rendering, and should definitely be considered, if you’re looking for a more budget option and your work mostly consists of image editing. While we would all love monstrous and expensive powerful hardware, the reality is that not everyone can afford it. This is why we have to demand better budget options, which we are getting, fortunately.
