[Comparison] Intel Core i5-1240P vs Core i5-12500H – 28W vs 45W is an interesting showdown

The Alder Lake P-series can quickly catch up to the H-series, if cooling is limited, as some manufacturers try to squeeze in the most powerful chip possible, without thinking of the cooling and how important it is.

Today we have the Core i5-1240P and the Core i5-12500H, both of which have 12 cores and 16 threads. We have also seen both of these chips increase their wattage past the so-called limit, so this could be an interesting battle, in which cooling and power management will be crucial.

Here is our Top Laptop CPU Ranking, which has the best laptop CPUs in a list, based on performance.

Today we are comparing the Intel Core i5-1240P against the Core i5-12500H.

CPU benchmarks

The higher-powered H-series CPU scores 35% higher in our Cinebench 20 3D Rendering benchmark. The i5-12500H is faster in Photoshop as well, however, by a significantly smaller margin, only 0.5 seconds.

Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)

Conclusion

The Core i5-12500H is better in prolonged loads since it can sustain higher clock speeds and wattage than the P-series Core i5-1240P. However, in quicker tasks, like a quick photo edit in Photoshop, both processors get similar results for 2D Rendering, with only half a second difference between the two, in favor of the Core i5-12500H.
