Design, Display and Cameras

As we said above, we are dealing with a premium smartphone which makes no compromise when it comes to design. We are presented with an extremely stylish back whose sides are slightly rounded but that is not what is important, and neither are the round fingerprint scanner or HUAWEI logo. No. What really stands out here is the main dual camera using a 20MP and 12MP sensors which bring improvements in various areas of image quality – sharpness, low light capabilities, bokeh, and more. As for the sides, there are no surprises – the right carries Mate 9’s power button and volume controls. Unsurprisingly, the left hold the SIM cards tray and the bottom offers a USB Type-C port for faster charging and data transfer. Moving on to the front, we find a beautiful 5.9-inch display with Full HD resolution, contrasty colors, and almost no side bezels. The chin and forehead are quite small as well because the navigation keys are on-screen and the area below the display carries only Huawei’s logo, while that above the screen there are only the earpiece, front-facing 8MP camera and some sensors.

Hardware and Software

The hardware aspects of Huawei Mate 9 are just as exciting as its design and camera. For starters, we are presented with a very powerful octa-core Kirin 960 processor (4 x 2.4GHz A73 + 4 x 1.8GHz A53) which is accompanied by 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. Two things ought to be mentioned here – this combo will ensure enough performance for the latest games and smooth multitasking, and the storage should be more than sufficient for most users. However, if you are crazy about music or movies and need more space, you could always expand via the available microSD card slot.

Additionally, this bad boy comes with a big 4000 mAh battery. This is exactly what such a smartphone needs, considering the 5.9-inch Full HD display and powerful processor. As far as software is concerned, we get the latest and greatest Android 7.0 Nougat with the familiar Huawei UI which brings additional features and layouts.
