Inside HP ZBook Firefly 14 G8 – disassembly and upgrade options

The HP ZBook Firefly 14 G8 is a compact mobile workstation that can be ordered with an NVIDIA Quadro GPU. Let’s see the internals of this machine.

1. Remove the bottom plate

To remove the bottom plate, you have to undo five captive Phillips-head screws. Then you can pry the bottom panel with a plastic tool.


2. Battery

The battery has a capacity of 53Wh unit and that seems normal for a compact 14-incher.


3. Memory and storage

In our case, we have two metal brackets. The first one covers the single M.2 slot. The second metal plate covers the soldered memory that works in dual-channel mode. The laptops with a dedicated GPU have two SO-DIMM slots that can be configured with up to 32GB of DDR4-3200MHz memory, while the variants with integrated graphics-only can be configured with up to 64GB of DDR4-3200MHz soldered memory.


4. Cooling system

The cooling solution has two thin heat pipes for CPU and GPU cooling. In addition, there is a single fan and a big cooling plate.
