[Specs and Info] ASUS Chromebook CX1 (CX1101) and CX1 (CX1700) – modern looks and power-efficient hardware

It’s no secret that Chrome OS can run on anything. The Linux-based Operating System that focused mainly on web browsing is an excellent option for low-powered pieces of hardware, which do get bogged down and become unusable under Windows. This is how we can have sub-$300 laptops with adequate performance for daily tasks that run smooth and consume less power.

Today we have two such offerings from ASUS, with one having a smaller 11.6-inch screen, while the other relies on a bigger 17.3-inch screen.

Full Specs: ASUS Chromebook CX1 (CX1101) / CX1 (CX1700)

Design

The laptops have a very appealing and modern design, with a silver exterior, sharp edges, and rounded corners. It’s foolish to assume that there would be metal involved with the build, and while we have seen aluminum-backed Chromebooks, usually their respective webpage goes to infinity and beyond to advertise it. Here, we don’t see any of that, so we assume that both laptops are made of plastic.

WeightHeight
Chromebook CX1 (CX1101)1.24 kg (2.7 lbs)19.5 mm (0.77″)
Chromebook CX1 (CX1700)2.42 kg (5.3 lbs)19.9 mm (0.78″)

Display

The 11.6-inch device comes with a TN display with a resolution of 1366 x 768p. The unit has 220 nits of brightness and an Anti-Glare coating. Moving over to the bigger laptop, its base configuration also uses a TN panel, this time with a resolution of 1600 x 900p and a max brightness of 200 nits. It also offers a Full HD IPS screen with a 250 nit brightness. In terms of bezels, the 11.6-inch laptop does come with heftier ones, while the 17.3-inch model is slimmed down significantly.

Specifications and features

Both laptops come with low-powered dual and quad-core CPUs from the Celeron and Pentium families. They also come with integrated graphics, which are just fine for doing daily office work, browsing the web, and consuming media. In terms of features, both laptops, come with quite wide I/O, which includes two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1), a MicroSD card reader, and a 3.5 mm audio jack, which is even more impressive on the smaller 11.6-inch laptop.
