[Specs and Info] ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 (CX5601) – one more premium Chromebook

Premium Chromebooks are a part of the market, but we wonder how functional and needed they really are. To be fair, ChromeOS is still lacking behind Windows 10 and Windows 11 when it comes to user experience and the overall amount of features that you’re getting.

However, the browser-based operating system is still improving, and with Google slowly allowing the ability to sideload Linux and run Linux apps, we can definitely expect more powerful Chromebooks to be available and actually have a purpose.

As for today, we have the ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 (CX5601), which offers the power-efficient Alder Lake U-series of processors.

ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 (CX5601): Full Specs

Design

The device is entirely made out of aluminum alloy in a Mineral Gray finish. It remains sleek and professional, while the plastic bits on it are made using recycled materials, with more and more manufacturers embracing sustainability, which is important, as there will be a day where we are out of fresh materials. In terms of branding, there are ASUS logos on the back of the lid and the bottom bezel. There is also a Chromebook logo on the edge of the lid. The laptop is decently portable despite carrying a 16-inch display with a weight of 2.12 kg and a profile of 19 mm.

Display

The display that is used here has a 16-inch diagonal and a 16:10 aspect ratio, which gives us an FHD+ resolution and a 300 nit brightness.

Specifications and features

There are a total of five CPU options, all from the Alder Lake U-series. The base model comes with the Core i3-1215U, while the most specced out variant has the Core i7-1265U. With all of these, you’re getting the Iris Xe Graphics G7, with either 64EU, 80EU, or 96EU.

With this being a larger notebook, we have wide I/O coverage. There are two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, an HDMI 2.0b port, a MicroSD card reader, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

There is also a quad-stereo Harman/Kardon speaker setup onboard and an Array microphone with Google Assistant Voice recognition support.
