[Specs and Info] GIGABYTE spreads its gaming reach beyond the AORUS brand with their G5 and G7 gaming notebooks

It seems to be a recurring trend for a laptop manufacturer to sell gaming notebooks separately from their gaming brand. We see this very often with Dell, who owns Alienware, but still has its G-series, Lenovo, and Legion, with the IdeaPad Gaming lineup, and HP and the Pavillion gaming series, while they have OMEN.

These laptops have one thing in common, they are all aimed at the budget gaming sector, which is very competitive and we guess having more devices ups your chances for consumers to purchase one of them. Well, today we have GIGABYTE’s offerings aside from their AORUS brand, the GIGABYTE G5 and G7.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the GIGABYTE G5 and G7.

Design

As these laptops are budget in nature, the choice of build materials doesn’t have to surprise you. The laptops are entirely made out of plastic, however, they should still be relatively sturdy and resistant to flex, due to their sheer heft, which measures 2.20 kg for the G5 model, and 2.50 kg for the G7 model. The thickness is relatively similar, with only a millimeter difference between the two laptops, with the G5 obviously being the thinner laptop. The laptop also has decent looks, with the sides of the lid and the body mimicking carbon fiber.

Display

When talking about the display, both laptops share the same unit, with the only difference being the size. The G5 uses a 15.6-inch panel, while the G7 has a 17.3-inch display. The screen that they use has a Full HD resolution, surprisingly thin bezels all around, a 144Hz refresh rate, and 99% sRGB coverage. However, for the G5 model with the RTX 3050 (non-Ti), GIGABYTE gives you a similar panel, without the 99% sRGB coverage, which is a pretty big bummer, if you ask us.

Specifications and features

The overall configuration options are pretty slim, but it’s probably a good thing since it doesn’t confuse the consumer that much. There are a total of two CPUs and two GPUs to choose from. The G5 comes with the Core i5-11400H and that’s it. You can pair it with either the RTX 3050 or the RTX 3050 Ti. The G7, on the other hand, gives you the option of a Core i7-11800H, while still supporting both GPUs. This combination of hardware should be pretty potent, especially at 1080p.

As these are gaming notebooks, they can’t go without a backlit keyboard. The unit here has an all-zone backlight, and while it isn’t RGB, it has 15 colors to pick from, so chances are you will find something that appeals to you. There is a stereo speaker setup, but it is bottom, firing, which isn’t that much of an issue, as it has DTS:X Ultra Audio support, giving you the best possible spatial audio.
