[Specs and Info] Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 5 – Taking pole position

This might be the most modern ThinkPad laptop that we’ve ever seen. The ThinkPad P1 Gen 5 offers a design shake-up, resembling an XPS laptop with the ThinkPad touches here and there. This is a larger device, with a 16-inch display and the appropriate hardware for maximum performance and Content Creation. All of that is placed inside a chassis that weighs less than 2.00 kg.

Today we’re giving you a quick overview of the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 5.

Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 5: Full Specs

Design

The laptop comes with premium built quality, using a hybrid polymer lid that uses both glass fibers and carbon fibers. The rest of the device is aluminum, which should mean that the laptop has the necessary sturdiness. The design is simple, featuring small ThinkPad branding on the base and the lid. You can also get a special Carbon fiber weave pattern for the lid, which adds a bit of character.

Display

The display selection offers both modest and extreme panels. The base model has a FHD+ IPS display with full sRGB coverage, 300 nits of brightness, and a 1200:1 contrast ratio. We fancy the QHD+ display quite a lot since it has a 165Hz refresh rate next to the top-notch Creator characteristics. For the most extreme of users, there is a UHD+ display with 100% AdobeRGB coverage. All panels come with X-Rite color calibration, so it’s nice to see good colors out of the box.

Specifications and features

The laptop offers only high-tier hardware, with three Alder lake H-series processors: two Core i7 chips and the Core i9-12900H. All of them take top spots in our Top Laptop CPU Ranking, outclassing everything that AMD can offer. For graphics, there are both conventional gaming GPUs, as well as the entire RTX A-series, so you can either go full Creator mode or leave room for yourself to game a bit, considering that you can equip the device with an RTX 3080 Ti.

Features-wise, the I/O has decent coverage, with two Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, an SD card slot, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

The base delivers two speaker grills, which house Dolby Atmos speakers. The webcam can shoot at FHD and has a privacy shutter.
