[Specs and Info] Lenovo ThinkPad P15v Gen 3 – mid-range workstation with high-end potential for performance

ThinkPad workstation laptops are always some of the best when it comes to performance and features. While their designs have remained the same through the years, this has become their calling card, something that should stay the same at this point. The P15v Gen 3 manages to maintain a healthy balance between offering high-tier specs and keeping its chassis under a reasonable weight. Its display selection is also spot-on, offering different panels depending on what you need the laptop for.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the Lenovo ThinkPad P15v Gen 3.

Lenovo ThinkPad P15v Gen 3: Full Specs

Design

The laptop doesn’t use high-end materials, but that has never stopped Lenovo from making quality and durable notebooks. The whole body is made out of a combination of polycarbonate and abs plastic, exactly like the Legion 5. From our experience with the Gen 2 laptop, we were satisfied with the build quality, and we hope to see the same happen to the Gen 3 device. In terms of dimensions, the laptop weighs around 2.09 kg with the integrated GPU and 100 grams more with a discrete GPU. This is complemented by a profile of 22.7 mm.

Display

There are three display options. The base one uses a Full HD IPS panel with 300 nit max brightness and an 800:1 contrast ratio. However, this configuration has insufficient sRGB coverage, so if you’re looking into doing any Design or Editing work, you should get the FHD IPS panel with a 1200:1 contrast ratio, which covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut. The final panel is made for the most productive of people, arriving with a 4K UHD resolution, peak brightness of 600 nits, a 1400:1 contrast ratio, and 100% AdobeRGB coverage.

Specifications and features

Specs-wise, we have three Alder Lake H-series chips, with even the least-powerful option, the Core i5-12500H having 12 cores and 16 threads. In terms of graphics, we’ll skip the integrated options and go straight for the killer Pro-grade SKUs from NVIDIA, which here are represented by the RTX A2000, the Quadro T600, and Quadro T1200.

As with most ThinkPads, you get a spill-resistant keyboard with a backlight. Lenovo units have always had good qualities, like long key travel and decent feedback, which make for a great typing experience.
