[Specs and Info] The Lenovo Legion 5 (15″, 2021) adds new hardware to an already impressive machine

Lenovo’s Legion lineup has some of the most impressive gaming laptops out there. The company always brings out quality products, that push the boundaries of performance, build quality, and features. The Legion 5 is an already great laptop, which is targeting the budget and mid-range market.

It brings Zen 3 processors and RTX 3000-series Graphics to the table, which was already a potent combination. Now, Lenovo expands the GPU field, adding the RX 6600M from AMD, which should offer a nice degree of change and variety.

Today, we give you a quick overview of the Lenovo Legion 5 (15″, 2021).

Lenovo Legion 5 (15″, 2021): Full Specs

Design

As this is a more budget-conscious laptop you get an all-plastic build. However, You shouldn’t worry too much about the build quality, as Lenovo has shown before that they can make a sturdy and rigid laptop, as their ThinkPads are frequently made of plastic, despite being some of the strongest and most rigid laptops that we have seen.

The design is also quite good. We appreciate a gaming laptop that doesn’t reveal itself as such, with RGB lighting or crazy body lines and angles. The laptop has a boxy-looking exterior with sharp edges and rounded corners, along with a light-up Legion logo on the back. The laptop isn’t made for portability, as it weighs 2.40 kg and is 25.75 mm tall.

Display

There are a total of three display offerings, all of which come with a 15.6-inch diagonal and a Full HD resolution. The first display has a 60Hz refresh rate, 400 nits of brightness, a 1200:1 contrast ratio, and 100% sRGB coverage. This panel is mainly there for creative consumers. The second display ups the refresh rate to 120Hz, but lowers the brightness to 250 nits and the contrast ratio to 800:1. It also doesn’t have the same color coverage. Finally, the third display feels like a combination of the previous two, with a 165Hz refresh rate, 300 nits of brightness, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, and 100% sRGB coverage.

Specifications and features

In terms of specs, you get Zen 3 chips and several NVIDIA GTX and RTX graphics cards. The entry configuration comes with the Ryzen 5 5600H and the GTX 1650 (Laptop), which is what you would expect from a budget gaming laptop. The new addition is the RX 6600M, which is part of the new RDNA2 family, which is expected to shake the GPU world, once its bigger brothers, the 6800M and the 6900M drop in the field.

Features-wise, there is a stereo speaker setup which is provided by Nahimic Audio and a Dual Array Microphone. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5 support are also a part of the mix. You get a backlit keyboard with decently sized keycaps and an actual NumPad segment, which is rarely seen nowadays.
