HP OMEN 16 (16-wf0000, 2023): Full Specs

Design

We’re entering new design territories with the OMEN 16, the base now extends a bit beyond the backside. In terms of materials, HP uses recycled metal for the construction of the OMEN, which should mean better durability and build quality. As a result of the new look, the whole backside is a heat vent, with extra vents on the sides as well, which should mean impeccable cooling. Lastly, in terms of portability, while the OMEN might look thin and light in images, it’s got its bulk, with a weight of 2.44 kg and a profile of 23.62 mm, which is still relatively good, considering the specs. The laptop gets a Full HD webcam on top, which is becoming more commonplace.

The positioning of the heat vents also means that the I/O is only on the sides, so you might deal with a bit more clutter in your day-to-day use, depending on how many accessories you use. The port selection consists of two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, the latest HDMI 2.1 port, a jaw-style Ethernet port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Display

Compared to the completely new OMEN 16 Transcend, the regular OMEN 16 has a standard 16:9 aspect ratio. Still, you’re getting some very good displays to choose from. We start off with a Full HD 144Hz IPS panel with only 50% sRGB coverage and a 250-nit brightness. Then you can upgrade to a better 165Hz option with the same resolution, as well as higher 300-nit brightness and 100% sRGB coverage. Lastly, if you plan on getting a beefier GPU, you surely have to think about the QHD 240Hz display, as the higher resolution will look and feel very good on the larger form factor. It brings the same brightness and colors as the 165Hz unit.

Specifications and features

The new laptop offers the Core i5-13500HX, the Core i7-13700HX, and the Core i9-13900HX, which bring bigger power limits starting with 55W as well as more cores and threads. As for graphics, there’s the RTX 4060, RTX 4070, and RTX 4080, which have so far shown very good performance. We’ve seen the 4080 go as high as 175W and deliver exceptional performance. However, HP hides the power limits here very close to the vest, so we’ll have to get the laptop and check it out for ourselves. In terms of memory, the laptop has two SODIMM slots for memory upgrades, offering up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM running at up to 5600MHz. The storage is accessible through two M.2 slots, but we’d have to review the laptop ourselves in order to confirm it.
