[Specs, Info, and Prices] HP Victus 16 (16-r0000, 2023) – Can it handle the HX-series processors?

The HP Victus brand has now totally gotten the spot of the Pavilion Gaming laptops, as HP’s first line of offense in the gaming space, offering the company’s most affordable gaming notebooks. In previous years they have shown some struggles with the build quality, however, the performance has been on par with other budget machines, like the IdeaPad Gaming 3 and Nitro 5. Now, we’ve seen the IdeaPad Gaming laptops become the LOQ series, while the Nitro 5 is in a new league altogether, offering more powerful components and reaching for the mid-range segment with two hands.

The new 2023 version of the HP Victus 16 wants to do the same thing, offering the beefiest Raptor Lake HX-series processors and RTX 40-series graphics. Will it have the cooling to support them though? While we can’t answer that right now, let’s take a tour of the new Victus 16 and see what it offers.

The HP Victus 16 (16-r0000, 2023) is available now with a starting price of $1,299.99.

HP Victus 16 (16-r0000, 2023): Full Specs

Design

The design of the Victus remains the same. The laptop usually uses plastic for its chassis, which in the past has been a bit flexy, something that we hope gets fixed for this year. The Victus has an understated look, as you’d rarely guess that this is a gaming laptop. The back has a glossy V-logo, while the entire backside is a large heat vent, which bodes well for the hardware and its potential for performance. In terms of colors, there are three variants, Mica Silver, Ceramic White, and Performance Blue. On the base, there’s a full-sized keyboard, with a large vent on top for extra airflow.

The port selection on the sides includes three USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, one USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, an HDMI 2.1 port, an Ethernet port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Display

The display selection has several Full HD IPS panels as well as one QHD IPS panel. The entry-level version offers a 144Hz refresh rate and a Full HD resolution, with 250 nits of brightness and only around 50% sRGB coverage. All of the other panels have higher 300-nit peak brightness, as well as 100% sRGB coverage, which allows them to be used for design work. The Full HD versions go up to 165Hz, while the QHD models go as high as 240Hz.

Specifications and features

The laptop is well-powered, offering both the Core i5-13500HX and the Core i7-13700HX, with more cores and threads when compared to the regular H-series. You also get a higher 55W power limit which means extra performance. For graphics, you can choose between the RTX 4050, RTX 4060, and RTX 4070. We’re quite surprised to see the 4070 here since it’s a big-deal GPU that’s not usually offered in budget laptops. Nevertheless, we’re excited to see HP’s 2023 gaming lineup of laptops, including the OMENs.
