[Specs, Info, and Prices] MSI Creator Z17 (12Ux) – powerful hardware and a big display inside a portable body

While previously we had the Creator Z16, which you can read all about here, MSI believes that it’s time for an upgrade. That is why we have the Creator Z17, which packs a bigger display, Alder Lake-H series processors, and the brand new Ti versions of the RTX 3080 and the RTX 3070.

Being a Creator device, it has a tall order ahead of it, as the display will have to be superior. The laptop also is also a form of art in MSI’s eyes, with the motto Tech meets Aesthetic being front and center on the laptop’s welcome page on MSI’s website.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the MSI Creator Z17 (12Ux).

The MSI Creator Z17 (12Ux) comes with a starting price of $3,249.

MSI Creator Z17 (12Ux): Full Specs

Design

The Creator Z17 has a CNC-aluminum body, which is crafted from a single piece of aluminum, which makes the laptop more durable as there are more connected parts. The lid and base come with sharp edges and round corners, with a simple MSI Dragon logo on the lid. The sides and the rear have a total of four heat vents. In terms of dimensions, the laptop stops the scales at 2.49 kg and has a profile of just 19 mm.

Display

There is a single display option available, with a 17-inch diagonal, QHD+ resolution, a 16:10 aspect ratio, an IPS panel, and a 165Hz refresh rate. Furthermore, the display covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and comes with TrueColor per-unit calibration. This gives it a dE value of <2. The panel also has stylus support, which means that you can outright draw on it, which might be a bit of a hassle, given that there is a whole keyboard in front of you.

Specifications and features

As any self-respecting Creator laptop would, the Z17 offers the Core i7-12700H and the Core i9-12900H from the Alder Lake H-series, which implement the big.LITTLE philosophy with Performance and Efficiency cores, bringing both insane performance and increased power-efficiency. Graphics-wise, there is the regular RTX 3080, along with its Ti counterpart. There is also the RTX 3070 Ti, all of which can render for days. NVIDIA has said that the Ti versions come with improvements when it comes to workstation use, which includes the Creator Cloud from Adobe.

Being a Creator device, it packs a populated I/O that has a power plug, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 3.5 mm audio jack, an SD card reader, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, and an HDMI connector.

The cooling is also addressed heavily, with the solution here having a total of 5 heat pipes and three fans with very thin 0.2 mm blades. It is dubbed the Cooler Boost Trinity+ and it looks like it has what it takes to keep the Alder Lake-H and RTX Ampere hardware in check.
