Top 5 reasons to BUY or NOT to buy the HP ProBook 635 Aero G8

The ProBook 635 Aero G8 sits between the HP ProBook 400 and EliteBook 800 series, representing the middle range of the business laptop market. The interesting thing with the laptop is the Aero in the name, which would make the consumer assume that the laptop is pretty light.

Well, we are happy to report that this is, in fact, true, as the ProBook weighs at 0.99 kg exactly, which is quite spectacular, considering that you can get it outfitted with pretty capable hardware from the Ryzen 5000U-series.

Without further ado, here are LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the HP ProBook 635 Aero G8.

HP ProBook 635 Aero G8: Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the HP ProBook 635 Aero G8

1. Battery life

With a 53Wh battery unit, the laptop delivered a very long battery life. The battery pack lasted for 18 hours and 3 minutes of Web browsing, and 13 hours and 58 minutes of video playback. Now, we conduct the battery tests with Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

2. Design and build quality

As this device aims toward the mid and upper range, it gets an all-metal construction. This and the aforementioned weight make the laptop the first on the list if you value dimensions highly. The construction isn’t the most rigid out there, mainly due to the weight reduction that had to be done, but it’s still not the worse that we have seen.

There are some popping sounds when we twist the notebook, but we don’t believe someone would twist their laptop on purpose. HP does also state that the edges are aerodynamic, which we hardly think will ever be useful in an office setting. Its lid opens easily with one hand, with the hinge working smoothly, revealing a matte display and an HD Webcam.

3. Upgradeability

The upgradeability is on a good level, with there being two SODIMM RAM slots, which support up to a total of 32GB of DDR4 memory in dual-channel mode, and a single M.2 PCIe x4 slot.

Here is our detailed teardown video, which shows how to access all the available ports on the laptop.

4. Display quality

The 13.3-inch FHD IPS display comes with SureView technology, which narrows the viewing angles, protecting the contents of the display from being seen by anyone but you. Otherwise, the display has comfortable viewing angles, a max brightness of 910 nits in the middle of the screen and 883 nits average across the surface with a maximum deviation of 9%. The contrast ratio is very high – 2250:1. Furthermore, the panel covers 92% of the sRGB color gamut.

The display reaches a very good dE value when we apply our Design and Gaming profile. With it, the color accuracy is at a professional grade.

Office Work

Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

Design and Gaming

This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

Health-Guard

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.

1 reason NOT to buy the HP ProBook 635 Aero G8

1. I/O

The I/O does cover some ground but lacks an SD card reader, which would have been very useful, allowing for quick photo editing, considering the good display. Despite that, you get two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1), an audio jack, an HDMI 2.0 connector, a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, and a SIMcard tray.
