Acer Predator 17 (G9-793) with GTX 1070 skips the integrated graphics and thus has subpar battery life

1336433_04We’ve seen so many gaming laptops without integrated graphics lately that we are starting to think this is turning into a trend. The trend doesn’t skip the latest from Acer – the Predator 17 with GTX 1070 either. We just hope that future GTX 1000-series notebooks will still include integrated graphics.

The new Predator 17 isn’t out on the market just yet but you can check here for more information about pricing when it does: http://amzn.to/2dxZdH8

Anyway, as most of you know, the iGPU is very important for battery life. Its low power consumption is useful when not so graphically intensive tasks are needed to be done. And, of course, since the new Predator doesn’t include the Intel HD Graphics 530, which usually goes with the Intel Core i7-6700HQ CPU, we are met with subpar battery life. On the web browsing test, the laptop scored just 230 minutes (3 hours and 50 minutes) while the video playback score was even lower – 200 minutes (3 hours and 20 minutes). That’s around 27% decrease over last year’s Predator. It seems that the newer version is struggling to keep up with the demanding hardware despite the large 88.8Wh battery.

Stay tuned for the full review of the model in the following days.
