Dell’s XPS 13 (QHD+) screen is relatively harmless to your eyes (PWM report)

xps_13_9350Results from the lab just came in shortly after the tests regarding screen quality. And opposed to yesterday’s undoubtedly excellent results, we have some mixed feelings about this PWM report.

You can find some of the available configurations here: http://amzn.to/2fIbwRb

The bad news is that the display uses PWM from 0 to 99% screen brightness, which is at least better than the Full HD version from the last generation, which had screen flickering across all brightness levels including 100%. The good news, on the other hand, is that the panel’s PWM frequency is relatively high and may trigger some unwanted effects only on users with super sensitive eyes. We recorded 19.8 kHz as you can see in the graph below.

So at this point, you have two choices. You can either use the screen at 100% brightness all the time, which is quite unlikely because it’s super bright, or you can use one of our Health-Guard profiles when we release them with the full review. This profile will eliminate PWM and lower the blue light emissions for safer work environment during the night.
