Official: Samsung revealed the Galaxy S7 / S7 edge – specs, release date and price

1456078672987558Enough unofficial, unconfirmed information. Samsung has officially revealed their two new flagships – Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S6 edge. A large part of their specs were leaked on the web in the past couple of days, but here is the official list of specifications of both phones.

Galaxy S7 has a 5.1-inch screen, while the S7 edge packs a larger 5.5-inch. Both displays use a Super AMOLED panel and have Quad HD resolution. It seems that most new top-tier smartphones will boast Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 820 SoC, since it is the mobile chip that powers both the S7 and S7 edge. The devices also have 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and unlike last year’s models, the storage could be expanded via a microSD memory card. Also, the phones are once again dust and waterproof having an IP68 certificate.

Galaxy S7 has a 3000 mAh battery, while the S7 edge packs a 3600 mAh unit. This is an improvement to last’s years Galaxy S6, which had a 2550 mAh unit in it. Both phones run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and have Samsung’s UI – TouchWiz on top.

There aren’t any major changes to the design, but if you take a closer look, you’ll notice the rounded edges, which should help provide a better and more secure grip of the phone. Galaxy S7 measures at 7.9 mm thickness and 152 grams weight, while Galaxy S7 Edge at 7.7 mm and 157 grams.

Both phones now feature a 12MP DualPixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture and OIS. It should be able to capture higher quality photos in low-light conditions. And as for the front, they have a 5MP camera with the same f/1.7 aperture.

As expected, both Galaxy devices will hit the market on the 11th of March, which is about a month earlier than the first appearance of G5. There isn’t any official information about the price of the phones, but we’re expecting them to cost as much as last year’s models upon release, which were about 700 euros for the S7 and 750 euros for the S7 edge.
