AMD Radeon RX Vega 7 (Renoir C6) vs Radeon RX Vega 6 (Renoir C3) – Vega 7 is 29% faster but Vega 6 is more affordable and common iGPU

The integrated video cards have gone through a long way until they can reach the performance levels of the current-gen iGPUs. Right now, it seems that AMD rules the mobile world when it comes to iGPU power (the same goes for their CPUs too). We saw that the AMD Radeon RX Vega 7 (Renoir C6) isn’t lacking too much performance (15%) when it’s compared to GeForce MX350. For integrated graphics, this kind of performance is very good.

One step down, and AMD Radeon RX Vega 6 (Renoir C3) is in front of us. This one should be much more popular than the Vega 7 devices because Vega 6 is fitted in much cheaper CPUs like Ryzen 5 4500U / 4600U / 4600H. At least on paper, RX Vega 6 looks like a good iGPU that could become very popular with the expansion of the Zen 2 platform. Let’s see what these two are capable of.

Specs overview

Both contenders are iGPUs which means that they use a chunk of the system RAM as well but at the same time they have their own 512MB of VRAM as well. Expectedly, the RX Vega 7 is beefier – it has 448 shaders while the RX Vega 6 has 384 shader units but the amount of ROPs is the same for the two opponents – 8. The bigger one has the advantage with its 1600MHz boost core clock but the Vega 6 isn’t too far away with 1500MHz. Additionally, you can find RX Vega in CPUs with TDP up to 45W and RX Vega 6 can be found in chips with a maximum TDP of 35W.

Verdict

Okay, that was a flawless victory for the AMD RX Radeon Vega 7. If you are fine with Low-to-Medium details in most games (probably) you don’t need a faster iGPU or dedicated graphics. The main problem is that it’s hard to find laptops with RX Vega 7 only. In most cases, there is a dedicated GPU under the shell of the notebook. But RX Vega 7 can be useful in these situations as well. If you want to play some light game and you are somewhere outside just switch to the AMD iGPU instead of the more power-hungry dedicated GPU and you’ll enjoy the game for a longer time.

The good news about the AMD RX Radeon Vega 6 is that this one can be found in a lot of configurations that come with iGPU only. The end price of this device will not stretch your wallet too much and at the same time, the 15W Zen 2 CPUs aren’t too power-hungry. So, maybe the RX Vega 6 will become the people’s champ when it comes to gaming on a budget integrated graphics.
