[Comparison] Intel Core i7-1160G7 vs AMD Ryzen 5 5500U – The Ryzen is better in the CPU benchmarks, but lacks GPU performance

Today we have a classic battle between Intel and AMD, with these processors being two of the newest to hit the market. In the left corner, we have the Core i7-1160G7, which has a TDP of only 9W but brings insane performance to the table. Furthermore, it can be put in many thin devices without a spec of worry about the temperatures. In the opposite corner, we have the Ryzen 5 5500U, which is a Ryzen 5 4600U with a Gucci belt and a new name.

CPU benchmarks

While the Ryzen 5 5500U uses the older Zen 2 architecture, as it turns out, fares better in the 3D Rendering benchmark. The AMD CPU had a 14% higher score in Cinebench 20. As for the Photoshop scores, the Ryzen CPU finished it faster, but not by much. The lead there was only 0.32 seconds.

GPU benchmarks

The GPU benchmarks, surprisingly, are where the Intel CPU showed up. It had the upper hand in two out of the three tests, with a win in 3DMark Fire Strike and Unigine Superposition, with a lead of 31% and 45%, respectively. In Unigine Heaven 4.0, however, the Radeon RX Vega 7 performed 2% better, which is practically nothing, but a win is a win. The gaming tests favored the Intel iGPU heavily, with it having a lead in every instance of graphics settings and games.

Conclusion

Overall, despite the TDP limitations, the Core i7-1160G7 put a formidable fight. Despite that, the Ryzen 5 5500U was the better CPU, performing better both in 3D and 2D Rendering. As for the graphics tests, Intel proved to have the better iGPU, with the Iris Xe Graphics G7 performing better, for the most part. The same was the story in the gaming tests, where regardless of the game or the graphics settings, the Intel iGPU showed higher fps.
