HP ProBook 430 G7 (2020) vs HP ProBook 430 G6 (2019) – the smaller ProBooks get more powerful hardware

The ProBook 430 machines are the most compact notebooks in the whole lineup. Expectedly, after we have our hands on the official specs of the HP ProBook 430 G7 we are going to compare it with the ProBook 430 G6 which is a 2019 model. We have an in-depth review of the latter. We like its comfortable keyboard, good upgradability options, and design.

You can also check our comparison between HP ProBook 470 G7 (2020) vs ProBook 470 G5 (2019).

It seems that HP has decided to play safe this year – “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. That’s why the ProBook 430 G7 is so similar to the G6 model.

Design: unchanged but still good-enough

Just like the bigger models, the smallest one isn’t that different than last year’s one. Still, we like the design – sleek, clean, and dark-themed keyboard that stands out from the light color of the body.

Display: TN and IPS panels

Well, it’s HD+ TN display and optional 1080p IPS panel, again. We highly recommend you avoid the TN one – get the IPS display which is decent enough for almost everything. Ok, the display of the G6 variant has a poor 53% sRGB color coverage – if the new one isn’t improved it’s not suitable for color-sensitive work. Nothing isn’t confirmed yet so let’s wait for our review regarding this new 13.3″ ProBook. A touchscreen panel is available too as an option.

Hardware: Comet Lake for everybody

Comet Lake CPUs are good enough for a device like that – they don’t consume much power, at the same time they offer good performance alongside less dissipated heat – а perfect combination for slim devices.

You can pick a notebook with up to 32GB 2400MHz DDR4 memory. Just like all ProBook models from 2020, there is an M.2 slot and a 2.5″ SATA slot for HDDs.

Connectivity and ports: an essential amount of ports and Wi-Fi 6

Those are the ports – two USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Type A), a USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Type C), an RJ-45 port, an HDMI 1.4b, one combo jack (for headphones or microphone), and an SD card reader.

Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 are standard features.

Other specs: optional backlit keyboard and IR camera

Maybe you aren’t surprised – the keyboard is spill-resistant, there is an optional backlit unit too. As always – an IR camera as an option.
