Exynos 7 Octa 7580 (Mali-T720) vs Snapdragon 801 (Adreno 330), Snapdragon 615 (Adreno 405) and Mediatek Helio X10 (PowerVR G6200) – benchmarks

Even though Samsung announced their Galaxy S5 flagship last year, this model is relevant again because it differs from the original version of the device. The one we have in mind if Galaxy S5 Neo that brings some improvements over the classic model. Most of them are due to the octa-core Exynos 7580 SoC and Mali-T720 GPU, found in the newer version.

To get a better understanding of exactly how good are its computing and graphic performance, we decided to compare it to some alternative options that come as direct competitors – ASUS ZenFone Selfie (check price) with Snapdragon 615, Meizu MX5 (check price) with Mediatek MT6795 X10, Exynos 5 Octa 5430 in Galaxy A7 (check price) and of course the initial Galaxy S5 (check price) with Snapdragon 801. We ran some benchmarks and the results show just how dominant Snapdragon 801 is in terms of raw performance. However, Exynos 7580 managed to overtake Snapdragon 615 in most of our tests and not only that, but thanks to it Galaxy S5 Neo performed great in our battery tests as well as in the temperatures challenge.

We will post soon our Galaxy S5 Neo in-depth review, where you can find more information and benchmark results. And if you are interested in the price and availability of the device, you can do so at the following link: http://amzn.to/1MGwRV3

GFXBench T-Rex 2.7 offscreen
The T-Rex 2.7 test is based on ES 2.0/GL 3.0 and includes highly detailed textures, materials, complex geometry, particles with animated textures and a post-process motion blur effect. The graphics pipeline also features planar reflections, specular highlights and soft-shadows.

 GFXBench Manhattan 3.0 offscreen
The Manhattan 3.0 test is based on ES 3.0 / GL 4.1 and uses deferred rendering and multi-render target (MRT) for the geometry pass, diffuse and specular lightning. It also features complex effects such as depth shadow map, cloaking effect, post-process effects (bloom, depth of field), occlusion query and animated volumetric light shafts.

 3DMark (Ice Storm Unlimited)
In this test, 3DMark’s Unlimited engine uses a fixed frame interval and renders exactly the same frames in every run on every device. The frames are rendered in 720p “offscreen” while the display is updated with small frame thumbnails every 100 frames to indicate progress.
