Inside HP EliteBook 850 G6 – disassembly and upgrade options

One of the sleeker and good looking business notebooks on the market. Despite the great design, interestingly, it is 99.9% the same as its predecessor – both on the outside, and inside – take a look.

1. Remove the bottom plate

To access the internals, you have to remove the bottom panel of this device. It is held in place by 10 Phillips-head screws, which actually remain attached to the plate even when you unscrew them. Good forward-thinking, HP.

2. Battery

As of usual, remove the battery connector as soon as you are inside the machine. This will prevent you from shorting any of the circuits. So, the battery itself is a 56Wh unit and is fixed in position by four Torx-head screws. By the way, they are of really high-quality material, and the big head-size helps for easier mounts and dismounts.

3. Memory and storage

In terms of memory, this notebook can fit 32GB of DDR4 RAM via its two RAM DIMMS, and while there is no 2.5″ drive slot, its only M.2 storage option can fit both SATA and PCIe drives, plus PCIe x4 support for the latter.

4. Cooling system

Interestingly, there is a metal plate located above the processor. This should help with the heat dissipation to the heat pipe, which is also rather bulky.
