Intel announced the fastest processor on the market – Xeon Phi 7290 – it offers only 72 cores

CMDIntel is not shy to announce new processors and today the American company presented its most powerful and most expensive processor – Xeon Phi 7290. At first you may mistake it for a GPU but it functions as a regular processor. This appearance is probably due to the performance of Xeon Phi 7290.

The new Intel CPU offers “only” 72 cores with a base frequency of 1.5 GHz for each core. This makes Xeon Phi 7290 the fastest CPU for the time being. Leaving the cores aside, this model also supports 16GB HBM1 memory with sample rate of 7.2 GT/s. Furthermore, it supports the Intel Omni-Path technology that automatically scales up to one thousand threads, reducing the chip’s consumption as much as possible. Xeon Phi 7290 will be released on the market in September and will cost “only” $ 6294.

Intel announced three more models from the Xenon Phi lineup – 7250, 7230 and 7210. The first one offers 68 cores with a base frequency of 1.4 GHz. The sample rate and memory are the same as the ones in Xenon Phi 7290, and the maximum supported RAM is 384GB DDR4 (2400MHz). Additionally, the other two chips come with 64 cores with a base frequency of 1.3 GHz. Their sample rate is 6.4 GT/s, and the RAM is again 384GB DDR4 (2133MHz). All four processors need 245W+15W connectors.
