The new Acer Predator Helios 500 packs Ryzen 7 2700 and RX Vega 56 under its hood

Acer has just announced its brand new Acer Predator Helios 500 gaming laptops that are equipped with a combination of AMD Ryzen 7 2700 processor and Radeon RX Vega 56 graphics card. Until now, the regular version packed an enthusiast level Intel/NVIDIA combination – taking a look under the hood would reveal the Core i9-8950HK and GeForce GTX 1070. We have just recently published our in-depth review of this particular configuration, so if you happen to show interest, you may follow this link.

Now let’s focus on the latest addition to the Acer Predator Helios 500 family which also happens to be the first enthusiast AMD-only gaming laptop. The present processor here – Ryzen 7 2700, boasts relatively low TDP and high energy efficiency and also operates at its stock speeds. This merit shouldn’t be overlooked because, for comparison, the Intel/ NVIDIA configuration offers a Core i9-8950HK processor based on the “Coffee Lake” architecture with TDP rated at 45W.

Another surprise hides in the graphics department – here we see the Radeon RX Vega 56 GPU which is fairly faster than the GeForce GTX 1070 of the regular model. The specs sheet is complemented by a 17.3-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 16 GB of dual-channel DDR4 memory, 256 GB NVMe SSD+1 TB HDD for storage, as well as Killer Doubleshot Pro networking module.
