The new Dell XPS 13 (9360) offers an amazing battery life even with a power-hungry QHD+ screen

laptop-xps-13-9350-pdp-polaris-03Dell recently released its updated XPS 13 notebook with the new Kaby Lake processors under the hood and with this – kind of a big – change the company also increased the battery capacity from 56Wh to 60Wh, which should account for overall better battery life, but not as much as we expected.

We would like to remind you that earlier this year we reviewed the XPS 13 configured with Full HD IPS display and Core i5-6200U on board and the battery life was just astonishing. However, this year we got our hands on the higher-end unit with QHD+ screen (3200×1800), hence more pixels to power up and less battery life. We ran the usual tests only to find out that this year’s model actually offers better battery performance even compared to the Full HD version from the previous refresh. Now think about the Full HD Kaby Lake version… If we have the chance, we will run these tests on the 1080p configuration as well because we expect some record-breaking results.

We can only assume that the improvement comes from the slight increase in battery capacity (56Wh to 60Wh) and the newer and more efficient Kaby Lake chip, which in our case is the Core i7-7500U. Anyway, let’s talk numbers now. On the web browsing test, the XPS 13 scored a whopping 613 minutes (10 hours and 13 minutes) while on the video playback loop, the score was considerably lower – 327 minutes (5 hours and 27 minutes). Just for the record, the XPS 13 with Skylake endured for 563 minutes (9 hours and 23 minutes) of web browsing and 445 minutes (7 hours and 25 minutes) of video playback.

Of course, all tests were run using the same settings as always – Wi-Fi running all the time, Windows power saving feature turned on and screen brightness set to 120 cd/m2.
